Perspectives on Our Fellowship
The Wylie Northeast Church
We do not have Sunday Worship under tall spires with bells; we do not enter through gothic doors under the watchful eyes of gargoyles; we have no MacDonalds or Starbucks in the foyer; our ministers are not garbed in robes and sashes; we do not have an elaborate altar, hardwood pews, golden icons, nor stained-glass windows. There is no choir in a balcony overhead.

We meet in a youth gymnastics facility set back in a field of prairie grasses. The floor, as such, is spring-loaded. Our altar is a stack of gym-mats. Our lectern is a stand for sheet music. We make our own coffee. Kids play football in the parking lot. We dress in jeans and t-shirts. We have an electric praise team: a guitar, a bass, a keyboard, and drums.

Our ministers are family men with full-time jobs. They are completely accessible. The fellowship is close-knit, yet warm and open to new members. The church body is very much a family-oriented one, and yet no individual is left behind. Everyone is encouraged to read their Bible. Everyone is called on to be involved. We are culturally diverse, and we are made up of people from various places, covering all stages of life.

Nothing fancy. Nothing corporate. Nothing contrived.

For us, "church" is whenever two or more people discuss the Bible. We worship in a large gathering on Sunday mornings, but we live it all week long. Our community includes ministries for toddlers through young adults, small groups that meet weekly, many Saturday youth events, counsel on all kinds of issues, and close ties with other church bodies in the Dallas area.

We are a new church planting, formally established in October 2009 after a season of trial runs and with great support from our Garland fellowship. You may not see the spires nor hear the bells, but do not be fooled by expectations. You have entered into a community of disciples, and we walk the walk.
